Simage Technologies has been engaged by a major metropolitan area authority in the Middle-East as one of the companies to provide consultancy on ‘Smart City’ implementation.

The IoT (Internet-of-Things) market is growing exponentially and based on market research would reach an estimated $ 561Bn by 2022. The IoT is smart cities market itself is projected by MarketsAndMarkets report to grow to around $ 147Bn by 2020, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 23.2% during the forecast period of 2015 to 2020.

The role of IoT is central to the realization of a smart city initiative. Connected devices help city authorities to collect data which provide real-time perspective on the activities in the city area. The application of IoT in the urban context is a drive by local governments to adopt ICT solutions in the management of public affairs. The technology has the potential to become the core engine to determine the health and improve the operating efficiency of the city. The use of connected devices finds relevance in various domains like intelligent energy management and smart grids, building safety and automation, traffic management and monitoring, healthcare, sewage management, etc.

Equipped with real-time data and predictive analytics, city authorities can plan and ensure that proactive actions are undertaken to meet the current and future needs of the residents. For example, sensors in the buildings can provide immediate information to the authorities on the health of the building and ensure a quick response from first responders in case of any incident. Reducing of energy consumption and carbon footprint, regulating traffic, optimization of sewage services and shortening response times for critical services are some of the benefits of an IoT Smart City.

Simage is proud to be associated with and contributing to this initiative, and is providing advisory on the safety applications and the security aspects of the Smart City implementation.
